2A- Bug List
1. Everything done through the government is much slower than it has to be. They do not accept online payments, have extremely long queues, have really old websites.
I think this bug exists because any changes to the website or process must be approved by a government official and they may be reluctant to do that.
2. Businesses that require checks despite accepting payment, but then charge a $17 "service fee".
This bug was written in reference to my apartment complex, and by looking closer I realized that it is because they run their payment services through a separate website. This website must charge a fee for this service but we are the ones who end up footing the bill!
3. Paying the same amount for a parking pass at UF and not being able to park close enough to campus where I can walk to class from that spot.
This bug exists because UF does not make enough parking spots for students. There are plenty of orange lots that are empty most of the time!
4. In my home state (New Jersey), you are not legally allowed to pump your own gas but the attendants will leave you waiting 10-15 minutes in your car every time.
This bug exists because it is illegal to pump gas! A possible fix would maybe be paying them based on how many customers they assist rather than at a per hour rate.
5. Pollo Tropical on campus never gets the orders correct even though they take 5x as long to make it.
This bug probably exists because they do the orders in a line instead of taking orders one at a time based on what is on the screen.
6. The food locations on campus do not accept coupons or discounts that are available at other locations of that particular franchise.
It may be that this bug happens as a result of the deal UF has with these companies. It might be that they do not have to offer coupons because they are a campus location.
7. Every company is developing a different streaming service and removing the shows I like from Netflix. I'm not going to buy their service!
This bug exists because every company is considering making online streaming similar to the traditional cable model. I do not think this model will work out with my generation as an audience.
8. Some professors on canvas do not upload the correct dates to the syllabus on canvas so many of the deadlines are conflicting with their calendar dates.
This bug exists because the syllabus calendar and the canvas calendar are not integrated. This could be easily fixed by having professors upload a single schedule!
9. A lot of companies have a "contact us" email on their website but they never respond to the email you send.
This bug exists because they don't have anyone employed to check these emails. They just disappear into the void and they have no intention of them being read more than once a year. There is no way they can respond to them all without an employee being paid to take care of it.
10. Having to set different, unique passwords with many different rules for every website and as a result needing to reset them often to get into your accounts
This bug exists because security is important and websites do not want you to get hacked by using a previous password, but it is impossible to remember all of these passwords. Every website should just automatically have two-step authentification sent to your phone and no passwords.
11. The refund policy for many services is worded specifically so that if they do not provide the service they still get to keep your money. Ex. A concert that gets canceled but they do not have to refund you even though you never got to see the performance!
This bug exists because the company still has to pay for the venue whether or not they use it.
12. The World of Warcraft classic queue is so long that you have to leave it open for exactly 5 hours to get in, and it logs you out within 30 minutes if you get in and aren't there. This makes it impossible for people who are gone from the house most of the day because of work or school to get a chance to play the game they paid for.
This bug exists because they did not anticipate the popularity of this game and chose to make a lower server capacity to save money.
13. Companies (like Nintendo) that charge a lot of money for their games and never do sales or allow the distributors to have sales with their games.
This bug exists because the company wants to make sure the prices of the game are the same everywhere. It might also exist because they want to make more money but that doesn't explain why they do not allow their distributors to sell for less during special promotions.
14. Products that are extremely cheap but not able to be used because they are so poorly produced. Ex. A spaghetti strainer that breaks on first use because it is too cheap to hold the weight of the spaghetti.
This bug exists because people will always opt for the cheaper option even if they only get one use out of it!
15. It costs money for garbage and recycling removal even though the government should be interested in maintaining the integrity of their own land.
This bug exists because the government does not direct any of its money towards waste removal.
16. Legally being required to have car insurance but having your rates raised if you get into an accident and not being paid enough to fix or get a new car.
This bug exists because the insurance companies want to make a profit but I do not understand how we could be legally required to provide money to a private industry that does not provide a good resource.
17. Paying an insane amount for health insurance and then still not being able to afford to go to a doctor because the insurance doesn't cover most things.
This bug exists because there are no laws preventing healthcare providers from being a privatized industry meant to make a profit.
18. Hairstylists can cut your hair nothing like what you asked for and you still have to pay them the full amount.
I believe that this bug exists only because if a hairstylist messes up your hair you will probably not come back. There should be a refund system in place or hairstylists should be removed from their position for consistently cutting hair or dyeing in a way other than what was requested.
19. Groceries and gas stations that wait too long to put a limit on how much can be purchased before a storm, resulting in no water or gas left for people even days before the storm will hit.
The reason this bug happens is that grocery stores have a limit of 6 cases of water per person rather than a limit of one or two. Similarly, gas stations do not limit how much gas can be taken out in canisters until they have already started to run out. Some people take much more than they need and leave none for other people.
20. When restaurants do not include the sauces that you requested in your order and then you have to wait in line to get them because they keep them behind the counter.
This bug exists because they do not keep the sauces available in a place where they can be taken. I believe that businesses do this to save money but their employees pay the price because instead of making food or taking orders they have to take a break to hand out sauce packets.
The main challenges I had coming up with this list is that a lot of them exist for similar reasons. Many of these problems are only problems because the companies are trying to cut corners and save money. It was not particularly difficult to come up with most of the items because I was able to come up with a couple each day. There are so many little things that could be changed to be more efficient. I was surprised that I was able to come up with 20 in such a short amount of time! There are probably a lot more that I can think of as well. It was difficult to think of the reasons why some of these bugs exist because some of them do not have easy solutions. There could also be more than one reason for a bug existing. It was interesting to take some time and try to realize why these things happen so frequently.

Kelsey, great layout and I can relate to all of your bugs. One specifically is your first bug about the government. I am an insurance agent and I have to deal with FEMA for flood insurance policies. FEMA is the worst with their website and their procedures when it comes to seriously anything. I think this is not only the outdated technology but also because it is the government and they have very strict procedures set to make sure everything is done correctly.
