Reading Reflection No.2

The book that I read for this assignment was Inbound Marketing by Brian Halligan. Although this book was written awhile ago, I think that the information in this book is still helpful because even though the landscape of the internet has changed a lot there is still a lot of interesting information in this book.

1) The general theme or argument of this book is that social media sources can be an insanely valuable asset to building your business and your audience.

2) I believe that this book connected back to our classwork and what we are learning in ENT3003 because we learned how important social media influencers, google results, and blog posts can be to an entrepreneur. We learned how important it is to get linkbacks to our page and a good method of doing that is by following the guidelines outlined in this book.

3) If I had to create an exercise for this class based on the book, I would have the assignment be to create content as it is explained in the create remarkable content section of the book.
I would have the student create them based on their idea for entrepreneurship. They would have to create one of each and could read the description of them in the book.
The content would be as follows:
-A blog article about a topic related to the industry of the business that the student has chosen
-White papers (The description for what white papers are have previously been discussed in class, but there is a better guide inside the book)
-A video about the product or service that the student is trying to sell
-A webinar/PowerPoint presentation about the product or service the student is trying to sell
-A podcast with someone in the industry that the student is trying to break into

4) The biggest surprise that I got from reading this book was finding out that creating content for websites that you are guest appearing on is not a successful technique for finding new followers or content engagement. Before reading this book, I had the belief that this would be a successful strategy. However, there are many other techniques that are a lot more useful and it makes sense that you would not want to spend your time waiting on someone else's website when you could be growing the content on your own.

  1. Hi Kelsey,
I enjoyed reading your post because I strongly agree to the theme of the book. I think social media is a crucial asset that can make a business much better. One company example is Moes, they keep up with trends and have a funny social media presence which generates business. Along with promoting their brand social media allows companies to put out promotions that customers will want to use.

  2. Hey Kelsey,
This was a great post that was super informative for someone who has never read this book. I think you responded to the questions really well and the picture was a nice touch. Regarding the theme of the book, I totally agree with how important social media is and will continue to be. I really liked how detailed your assignment idea was and I think that would be a very constructive assignment for this class.
