Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Opportunity : New releases for games and consoles are coming out so quickly that people cannot afford to purchase all of the gaming consoles and games that they want to play Summary of interviews: Interview 1: My first interview was a 21-year-old male (George) college student at The College of New Jersey. He said that he did not have any desire to use this service because he wouldn't be willing to pay to play video games because he does not invest a lot of time in new games and prefers to play older games to save money. He does not generally spend money on video games and buys a new release every couple of years but does not buy more than one or two because he is not interested or does not have the time. Even if he rented it he thinks that he would not have enough time to play the games and feel like he got his money's worth. Interview 2: The second person I interviewed (Sam) was a 28-year-old male who works full-time as a programmer. He told me that he would not use thi...

Solving the Problem

Image
Solving the Problem I believe that there are many different solutions to the problem that I identified in the previous exercise. Here is my hypothesis from the previous assignment: My hypothesis: I believe that this need mainly exists for casual gamers that are unable to afford the equipment necessary to run new and popular games because new technology comes out very frequently and as a result, casual gamers cannot or do not want to pay to purchase a new machine every couple of months. (1) Selected Opportunity  The opportunity that I have selected is that I have noticed that many large gaming corporations have been producing games and consoles with content exclusive to their brand faster than any fan can acquire their systems. They are far too expensive and being released with upgrades far too often for any person, even someone with a lot of expendable money, to purchase every single console and game that they are interested in. (2) Product/Service The pro...

Testing the Hypothesis

1) The opportunity that I would like to pursue is a website that allows people to find and rent out gaming equipment. 2) The who: Casual video-gamers in the United States The what: They are unable to afford the equipment necessary to run new and popular games The why: New technology comes out so frequently that people who are not in-the-loop or technologically savvy cannot keep up or cannot afford to 3) Testing the who, what, and why with my hypothesis My hypothesis : I believe that this need mainly exists for casual gamers that are unable to afford the equipment necessary to run new and popular games because new technology comes out very frequently and as a result, casual gamers cannot or do not want to pay to purchase a new machine every couple of months. Who: Although the main audience for this service would be casual gamers, it is likely that many casual players would not be interested in paying for this service unless it was cheap. Are casual gamers the best mark...

Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Image
This week, we were challenged to find four opportunities in economic trends and regulatory changes. Economic Trends 1. Data as a commodity The first opportunity that I noticed was that data is becoming monetized more and more frequently, which is a growing concern for many Americans. It would be beneficial if someone created a product, such as an app, that was able to scan through websites and alert you in real-time whether your data is being purchased or sold through those websites. It would also be beneficial for this app to work as a resource to show users how they can request that their data be removed from the website and if there is an option to opt-out. A) I learned a lot more about this information through a documentary called "The Great Hack". B) This information suggests that an opportunity might exist because every American has had their data bought and sold by large corporations. C) The prototypical customer for this opportunity would be those...

My Entrepreneurship Story

Image
In my life, I have been exposed to entrepreneurship many times but I mainly wanted to share two stories that really interest me. Both of these stories began before I was even born! My Father As a kid, I had the pleasure of telling everyone that my Dad owned his own business. The story behind it is actually really interesting because it inspires me to not get set on one specific, linear plan for my own life. My father started out as an undergraduate double majoring biology and physics. After he finished his undergraduate degree, he decided to apply to graduate school for an MBA. After traveling and working for many different companies, he thought, "Hey I could do that!" and decided to open up his own business. I am very proud of him because he decided to take a chance and it paid off because he was able to become his own boss. My Nanna My Nanna, not my Grandma, has always been in my life ever since I was a little child. It wasn't until I was older that I learne...
