Solving the Problem

Solving the Problem

I believe that there are many different solutions to the problem that I identified in the previous exercise.

Here is my hypothesis from the previous assignment:
My hypothesis: I believe that this need mainly exists for casual gamers that are unable to afford the equipment necessary to run new and popular games because new technology comes out very frequently and as a result, casual gamers cannot or do not want to pay to purchase a new machine every couple of months.

(1) Selected Opportunity

The opportunity that I have selected is that I have noticed that many large gaming corporations have been producing games and consoles with content exclusive to their brand faster than any fan can acquire their systems. They are far too expensive and being released with upgrades far too often for any person, even someone with a lot of expendable money, to purchase every single console and game that they are interested in.

(2) Product/Service

The product/service that I am planning on producing is either a store, website, or an app where you can rent out gaming equipment for a day or a certain number of hours.

This store would ideally have all of the most recent and exciting technology that the average person would not be able to purchase. The equipment would be readily available and people would be able to rent a room with their friends or alone on an hourly basis to try out the new equipment. It is possible that I would be able to get sponsorship deals with companies that are willing to give me their equipment in exchange for advertisement. They may even be able to offer a discount to people who attend and decide eventually that they want to purchase a product showcased in the store. I originally intended to have this be something like a restaurant or bar, where people could come with their friends and use the gaming consoles for a lot less money than it would cost to buy. This would keep people coming back because it would foster a sense of community and they could split the cost among their friends so it is even more affordable.

If I were to create an app, it would be an app where people could put their equipment up for rent (similar to an AirBnB) and people could choose to rent that equipment. However, many of the people I interviewed said they would much prefer a website or a store rather than an app. The logistics of this app would be the most difficult part as the owner would have to deliver the gaming setups reliably.

The last thing I considered as a solution is a combination of both a store or restaurant where people can come and use the equipment, but a website as well so people could rent the equipment out for events. That would be a good way to hit both markets as I could have the store open during the afternoon and evening, and during the day I could rent out the equipment to people who need it for events and parties.
